#724 - Food As Motivation #43 - Group Therapy

Always see people instagramming the Eggs Benedict here at Group Therapy  and the hollandaise sauce is always in abundance, so I was like that's it, I must try!

On a Saturday, this place was rather packed!
Payment had to be made first at the counter unlike most cafes where you pay after that.

Roasted Almond Latte (SGD6.50)
It smells/taste good but sadly our latte was served lukewarm. :(

Truffled Ravioli (SGD18)
My first time having ravioli! It was rather yummy with porcini and truffle filling inside. You can taste the truffle oil which wasn't overbearing. Best eaten when served hot, because when it gets cold, the taste gets a little jelat

Poached Eggs (SGD15)
Otherwise known as Eggs Benedicts, I was really expecting a lot from this dish. But I was kinda disappointed. The sauce was too buttery and not salty enough! Eggs were poached well though!

Good place to chill on a Saturday afternoon, but I wouldn't be back for the latte or eggs benedict. Probably will try other sweet stuff like pancakes next time!

#723 - Shopping at Edae / Nolboo Budaejjigae (놀부 부대찌개)

When asked of where to shop in Korea, many will say Dongdaemun, Hongdae or Edae, the streets just outside Ewha Womans University.

This university is known for it being an all girls school plus their buildings are very pretty or ootd background worthy hahaha. A pity time wasn't on my side and we were more interested in shopping tbh. :D

Shopping here isn't that cheap though you can find 10000won clothings! The quality, however, is definitely much better than those you find in eg. Bangkok.
And there are many shoes stores and 10000 won bags stores all around the alleys.

Didn't really take much photos as we were busy shopping and as you can see, the shoes stores are aplenty. Prices are 20000won and above, but sometimes you can negotiate. There are many stores selling guys stuff as well!

The weather was quite hot that day and Raine and I had our first try at Liquid Nitrogen icecream.
Tasted like normal ice-cream, only difference was probably the dry ice (I think) that made smoke come out from the icecream hahaha.

We had yummy army stew for dinner that day too!

We ordered the set for 2 which comes with 2 portions of the army stew with extra noodles and drink! It was priced at 19000won.
This was super shiok?! I love everything inside this, although everyone say it's not worth it because all the ingredients are so cheap. But it's so good w everything together!! Especially the luncheon meat lahhhh. *hearts in eyes* I think this is one of the Korean dishes I miss? I don't know where I can find nice ones here in Singapore. :/

Didn't really take a lot of photos together when in Korea, so above those were some rare ones!

More active on this blog soon I hope! X

#722 - Gwangjang Market

Visted Gwangjang Market one morning!

Heard about this place ever since Running Man filmed there! Saw them having kimbap, bibimbap and bindaetteok and they ate like so heartily, it makes me want to try too! And yes I did. :D

Did some online research about the place too and realise that many recommend it for the kimbap and bindaetteok!

It's basically a huge market with a few junctions and there are many stalls along the way selling similar food items, or cloths and miscellaneous items.

There was a whole row of stalls selling bibimbap which we didn't try.

Wanted to share kalguksu (handmade noodles) but the ajumma said minimum 3 portions or something?? Thus we had some kimchi mandu which were soso only.

Mayak Kimbap (마약김밥): Where mayak means 'drugs', meaning the kimbap is addictive that you can't stop reaching for it.
This cost us 2500won. It was really fragrant, with the sesame seeds and oil! Plus the size isn't that huge so you can easily pop one in your mouth each time. I don't mind having this now despite the carbs!

There was long queue for the apparently must-try at Gwangjang Market, that is the bindaetteok.

Grinding of the mungbeans!

Bindaetteok (빈대떡): Mungbean Pancake
Since we are here, we definitely had to try this! I can't remember how much it was (my records wrote 1600won, there were 5 people that day so I guess 2 large bindaetteok cost 8000won?). I remember we couldn't buy just one or something!

Erm the bindaetteok's taste is... weird to me? A little like corn but not sweet? And not salty also. :( There was some sauce with onions in it, which tasted like vinegar and soy sauce provided too! Raine and I were like thankful the guys were with us because we couldn't finish it. Hehh.

(Y)

Freshly squeezed juices to wash away the strong taste!

Favourite food here has got to be the mayak kimbap! If I ever visit here again, I'd go try the bibimbap!

Go out from Exit 9, it's nearer to the food zone.

#721 - Food As Motivation #42 - Tom Yum Kungfu

Very long since I met up w some of my cousin and I wanted to pass them the stuff I got from Korea, thus we had some catching up session over mookata at Tomyum Kungfu!

 Steamboat Set for 3-4pax (SGD50.90)
The top two photos show the full steamboat set!
They seem to have increase the prices, for I read entries 4 months ago, this set was SGD49. Quite expensive imo, since the food wasn't really a lot!

 Homemade Fish Paste (SGD9)
Thick slab of fish paste where quite a number recommended, it tasted okay to me!

Deep Fried KangKong (SGD13)
Something interesting and it was nice w the sauce which was a little spicy and you can taste coconut milk inside. There were a few battered squids/prawns (I can't remember) as well.

The steamboat set's meat weren't sufficient for us 5, and we ordered another plate of chicken at SGD8 which came w an egg cracked in the middle. The portion was quite huge.

Drinks like hot green tea, iced milk tea, iced tea, iced lemon tea are at SGD2.30. And you are charged for the wet tissues provided, at SGD0.50 per person.

Overall, I guess the food was okay? The soup base was sweet w the corn, and the chili sauce was decentbut I feel the meat could be more marinated. Perhaps because I prefer strong flavoured food! It was not really that nice like many have raved. Still prefer New Udon Thai Food's any day!

Oh and please go early, because there will be a long queue once it's dinner time. We left the place smelling a little like BBQ meat too, even though we were sitting in the open area.
